| no partners | | Was really looking forward to doing this hike though I didn't find the ascent too difficult. Once at the saddle, surroundings were pretty but heading on level territory things got a little tricky. Even with gps route it's easy to follow cairns and head off route, sure there are markers, but they're not yours! We missed that right turn so then backtracked just a little ways, this little detour did burn up some time and energy. As we headed into the Roost we did more of the same, just pecking away, here and there, exploring. There is a lot to check out in this area, a wonderland of rocks. Heading towards Fremont Saddle we were somewhat tired, this day was a mental challenge with the route finding. At the Needle, despite our obvious fatigue I opted for the descent via Cave Trail, not the easier Peralta. Glad I got to do Cave, it was not as challenging physically as I had imagined, just a few spots to crab-walk down. More route finding on Cave made for a long day however (mentally, ooff!) so finally at Peralta TH we bummed a ride back to our car the final mile, and happy we did! One hike never to be forgotten! |
