Actual weather - off and on drizzle and mist, the entire hike.
The drizzle didn't deter us except having us protect the electronic gizmos from the moisture (GPS & camera). Sadly, the drizzle is conducive to having murky photos, especially the long shots.
We did stay more aware of possible slippery boulders etc, as Robbers Roost is loaded with "cement" flooring that could become a slippery ice rink.
We went up Peralta trail to Fremont Saddle, hung a left and immediately disappeared behind the boulders. We heard some unknowing hikers say "Hey where did they go? They just disappeared"
We made it an out-and-back from Fremont Saddle, as we wanted to use Cave trail for the return to the car.
The last time I was on Robbers Roost trail was a few years ago in late April & at that time, the initial portion of the trail was very overgrown with very few cairns. Not this time. The trail is now quite distinct, with an abundance of cairns to lead the way. It's getting alot more use.
We did the normal exploring, once in the jungle of uniquely shaped boulders and cement flooring. We also had the trail all to ourselves.
I went Dacite surfing (Dacite Tide) but I could not coax Mike "up-on-the-wave". He however had the audacity to make many critical comments on my surfing form/technique.
AHHH - what does he know.
It was a nice fun hike, even in the drizzle. |
