The lot was full when we arrived so we were a little nervous about having to share the trails. Luckily, we didn't have to deal with them too much. One pair of backpackers were hiking out of the creek just as we were entering. Then after a long lunch and having the falls to ourselves, we passed a large group as they were arriving to the creek and we were leaving. Awesome timing
The only bad part was that the backpackers left their fire near the falls a bit hot still so John gave it a good drowning just to be safe. With a flowing creek ten feet away, there's no excuse to not put out your fire completely (as if there was in any case ). Props to John for noticing. We ran into the backpackers again and John gave them a friendly reminder about campfires.
The falls themselves were great! I've seen them bigger but I've definitely seen them much smaller. From what I gathered from other recent reports, we were right about picking a good weekend to see them.
The dreaded hike out was definitely a bit of a killer for me. The heat and my lack of sleep caught up with me and I dragged a bit. Once we finally reached the crest, though, it was pretty much all downhill from there and we sped back to the trailhead. |
