Three day adventure with Rachel. We camped two nights at Reavis Ranch and hit Circlestone and Mound Mountain on the second day. The orchard is in full bloom right now and super fragrant-- it was quite amazing for the senses. We had the Ranch to ourselves the entire time. It was my second time up to Circlestone and as interesting as the first.
Mound Mountain is quite the bushwack at first and then opens up a bit in the pines. From there to the summit, you can find game trails to help you along a bit. The view on Mound is fantastic. I was a bit disappointed, though, that White Mtn hides half of the Superstition Ridgeline from view. I might argue that the view from White is actually better (though I'm not complaining )On our return, we headed down the ridge and then straight north for longer before cutting east and up to meet the Circlestone trail a bit north of Circlestone. The bushwacking was much much lighter. I would take this route if I ever summit Mound again.
We woke up early the third day to beat the heat and made it back to the trailhead really early. The sky was blue with nice clouds and a constant breeze-- perfect hiking weather. There's a nice modest wildflower showing right now and over the three days we saw three sets of deer and two gila monsters. There was also a dead rattler on the road on the way out but I don't think that counts. I couldn't believe that I was home in central Phoenix by 2pm.
Awesome three days |
