Definitely a lot of varieties of peoples making different use of the area. Swimming, fishing, birding, hiking, backpacking were all accounted for. There was a birding event taking place over at Dead Horse so it wasn't surprising to see more than the usual numbers of those guys so I don't know if that was typical. There were quite a variety of birds enjoying the area.
Probably our favorite place was where Summer Spring actually joins with Sycamore Creek. About 500 feet south of the the spring there is a small foot path that heads west. There is a tree there that somebody carved the name "Jaguar Lounge" into, so naming the area for me. The columbine are exceptional in this area. I also saw the single most out of control dandelion here too. at the base the stalk must have been an 1.5".
The topos show an unamed spring between Summer and Parsons just about where we discovered one coming right out of the cliff wall under the trail which is itself just ledge at that this point. The topos have it however decidedly positioned well over on the opposite side of the canyon.
We had wine and crackers, some olives, and dried salami for a dinner appetizer. Beef, Cheese & Macaroni was the main course. The stars came out in style, the moon made a brief appearance before jumping to the next canyon. It was a tough day but the night was perfect. |
