Originally my buddy and i had planned to do the Packard and Parsons trail loop but with the relentless sun we decided to stick close to the shade and water instead. Our objective was to reach the ruins but going counter clockwise doesnt allow for an easy reach of the ruins. Once past the Parsons spring there is no more water for miles around. We decided to leave our backpacks behind and attempt to make it to the ruins without all the extra weight. We made it to the Sycamore basin JCT and almost to the top of the scramble up climb but by then the hike on the rocky streambed and the heat was making it impossible to keep going. At this point we had to make a decision, either to keep going and risk running out of water or take the safe choice which was to turn around and hike back the three miles, get water filtered and find a nice camping spot, which is what we ended up doing. These ruins are still on my mind and im going to have to come back once the weather isnt extreme hot. |
