| no partners | | My dad had this hike on his bucket-list and got 3 sons and a grandson on board. We converged from three states the night before, and hit the trail at 8:00am. We took a long time to reach the summit (over 8 hours) but this meant that we nearly had the cables and the dome to ourselves.
I am not afraid of heights but just looking at the cables from below made me nervous. They appear to be vertical. For a split second the cables made me think of a roller coaster --which is designed to slide downward at great speed; -not a happy thought when falling is the last thing you want to do.
Turns out my son and I loved the cables and wanted to climb them again when we got down. The views from the top did not disappoint. We reached the car after a 4.5 hour trip down and hiked the last section in the dark. What a day!
This was an amazing hike. The main drawback was driving so very far in such a short time (2 days driving, 1 day hiking). We should have camped or backpacked another day or two! |
