Four of us hit the trail at 9 am, with the parking lot more than half full. We made great time up to the saddle, when the going got tougher. A strong wind was coming up the rocky west side, and got colder the higher we climbed. At 100 yards from the top it was so strong that it made walking a stumble and stagger activity. After one very strong gust I said to myself, "If my son was with me, we would turn around right here." My buddy CMR was joking that I almost got blown off the mountain. On top of the windspeed, it was so cold near the top that we could only sit in the shelter instead of look around. This really put a damper on that feeling of accomplishment you get when you reach a peak. I put on all my extra clothes, but still started to shiver and had to borrow a jacket and gloves until I got back to the saddle. On the way down I brought up the rear to be sure we didn't get separated, and noticed that the lower trail is pretty dusty if you are following someone. :? All in all we had a great time.
