After the first climb it was still more humid than I care for so I got almost 3 hours of some very challenging four-wheeling in before tackling peak number two for today. So by time I finally got started on this one it was already 105 degrees.

Since the left ankle is still ailing a bit, I drove as close as I could possibly get so the climb would be short, albeit steep. But having found the ankle is fine on straight-up climbs as long as I didn't go across-the-slope everything went fine.

Well, not quite... before I left home I had forgotten to remove a spike that had gone through the sole of my right shoe just outside the ball of the foot. That meant whenever I stepped on a rock in that area the spike would poke into my foot.

So it wasn't long before I favored that foot, which just meant the left ankle had to take up the slack. Not wanting to set back the recovery of my left ankle, I made the conscious decision to protect the ankle and ignore the intermittent stabbing into the right foot. ](*,)

Yes, I tried more than once to remove the spike on the climb but it was no longer visible on the outside of the shoe and I had nothing to reach far enough inside to grab on tight and pull it through, so I had to suffer for my memory lapse.

Oh yeah, the reason I had shoes on in the first place was I managed even more brain-fade by forgetting my Teva sandals... I had planned only wearing the shoes while driving so....
Hey! Don't laugh, you'll know what its like when you get old... [-X

Anyway, other than having to detour a few times to avoid profuse amounts of cholla balls it went ok. As usual for me, coming back down the steep areas is the worst part with the knees taking the brunt. But in just over an hour I'd knocked out summit #2 of three for the day. Just a short snack-break at the car and I set off on climb #3.
