| no partners | | This was the first climb of what will be another three-summit day. Although it was steep, I reached the summit in under 45 minutes, which belied just how tough it was. The 90 degrees wasn't bad until you add the 48% humidity... it felt simply oppressive!
I'd much rather hike in the heat of the day when the humidity is almost non-existent.
The top of the mountain was pretty flat with plenty of areas to explore but with two more peaks to go I just took enough time to sign the summit log (first log was from 1996), locate the three USC&GS markers and a few summit photos before heading back. While at the summit I heard shooting from the west so when I took a photo of the western and lower peak I looked over and saw two guys doing some target practice.
While at the summit I noticed a road I hadn't known about previously that lead up the canyon to the east. Although I had not loaded the waypoint as a peak to climb today, I knew there was a peak over that way that was on my list to climb eventually. So on-the-spur-of-the-moment I decided that would be my second climb for the day.
On my descent of Dromedary I heard a small gas engine, which eventually I determined was a generator for someone with a semi-permanent camp a few hundred yards from the US 60. I had noticed the camp when I drove in before 6 am and nothing was stirring at that time.
Due to the humidity I was drenched with sweat so back at the trailhead I washed up a bit, caught up on my fluids and started my drive to the next peak.
I posted 25 photos on HAZ, the full set of 34 photos can be found here:
