| no partners | | After the Hummingbird Festival stops, I wasn't quite ready to head back to the heat yet. I had a few options in mind. It was getting pretty warm, so this option seemed like the best, even though I knew it would be a Zoo on a Saturday.
Got to the TH, got the last parking spot, and took off down the Baldwin Trail. Took it to the Templeton junction and then hung a left, following one of many "people" Trails down to the Creek. I could hear the commotion coming from the Creek and made up my mind to steer as clear as I could from the Main Crossing. I hit the Creek and waded upstream to a nice manmade Rock Riffle Pool. There was a few people here, but not many. The Rocks really form a nice pool on the other side.
Took some pics here and then waded downstream on another branch of the Creek, before finding a Trail on the north side. Followed the Trail downstream, encountering the screaming, shouting hoards of kids and families at the Crossing. Glanced at the Crossing briefly since I had not seen it before, and continued on the Trail downstream.
Found a nice area downstream of the Boulder Dam at the Crossing and took a break. Very quiet here, out of earshot of the Zoo. Only saw two other Hikers while I was soaking in the Creek. Water was a perfect temp for a hot day. After enjoying the Creek for awhile and getting some pics, I crossed the Creek, picked up a Trail that actually took me back to the Parking Lot.
The Clouds were starting to build over the Rock Formations so I stopped at the Ranger Station Overlook and took a few more pics before heading home. It was 99 degrees according to my car's thermometer when I left Sedona.
Nice day in Sedona, meeting a fellow HAZer, watching a Hummingbird banding, and soaking in a wonderful Creek!!! I do like this area, it is beautiful country, but best seen during the week.... |
