| no partners | | I made the drive up to the Canyon to take advantage of the great weather and hike down to the Colorado River. I set off down the South Kaibab Trail just after noon, and crossed the Black Bridge a couple of hours later. Arriving at Phantom Ranch, I was looking forward to getting a drink at the restaurant. D'oh! I left my wallet at the top, oh well. I roamed around for a bit, enjoying the creek and the golden cottonwoods before starting back. I was in no hurry, so I stopped to watch the sunset below The Tipoff. The last bit of light was gone and strong winds were turning the trail into a sandstorm by the time I hit the Redwall. I had been plodding along alone in the dark up Cedar Ridge for some time, buffeted by wind and sand, when I passed another solitary figure. I exchanged pleasantries with a Navajo man who was making his 28th trip down to the river in only 11 months. Cool. Continuing on, I made the top at eight pm, a bit tired to say the least. A change into some dry clothes, and I was speeding off into the night. Fun trip!
