After more research Pam wanted in on the hunt. We searched a half mile radius where I figured Owen's Spring should be based on Owen's information. In addition to the task at hand I learned more than anticipated about the flow of the creek.
Started on the far side of the zone just to mark it off. On about the third field I stumbled upon the old trailer. While one of us would have likely stumbled upon it sooner than later this was a daily double. Just prior I spotted Hanks Double Y Walnut tree clue. I smiled ear to ear, screamed out to Pam then quickly looked side to side. Hole E Cow just seven feet to my back left was the trailer in the tall grass seeding out.
I wish Hank and jj could have been there to share the moment. The freaky thing being jj and I have already been there... sitting on the long fallen sycamore is a triangle shaped rock. A couple days earlier I sent jj a PM with what I thought might be the flip side view. Looking back the triangle shaped rock is in my photo from the previous trip!
Next we scoured the area in detail for Owen's Spring. The creek has been dry here for weeks so it should stand out. As exactly described by Owen it would be under a pile of debris. Until anyone can better figure it out that is were I have marked the spring. The coordinates are likely off a tad as I edited out a lot of back and forth searching from my tracked route.
Just under a tenth of a mile downstream water does surface. However that's a couple curves and at least a three minute walk from Owen's stated spot. Upstream is a dry highway.
------
As this was Pam's first visit to the mighty Reavis Valley a trip to the orchard was in order. We lunched with Gnat Season II - Another Bite before heading back.
Pam provided great company and knocked out her first 20 mile hike |
