If you ever rode by here with Denny you heard the story of the rock on the horizon that looks like a man leading a camel. Finally today was the day to mark this on off the list. We started out just after 6a and hiked the 4x4 road in to a wash. We hiked down the wash and went off trail to the saddle. Once on the saddle we saw the first of several mine markers and collapsed or filled in mine. We proceeded down from the saddle and picked up a horse trail and hiked to below the Camel Man. We climbed up to an alcove and then to the camel man rocks. The image is better from a distance after a long hike in the dim evening light but still interesting to finally see up close. Denny climbed up and rode the camel. From there we hiked down to another shallow mine and then hiked the horse trail out past another mine and turned back after we kicked uo a coup;s of Mule Deer. We took an alternate trail back and did a little exploring on the return trip back to the car. The area is interesting with many rock formations, alcoves, mines and claim markers. Thanks for driving Denny. |
