Kristi took some of her visiting family down to Phantom Ranch for a few days, so I decided to dayhike down and see her for awhile.
Started at SK trailhead a little before nine am in cold and incredibly windy conditions ... had to stop hiking and brace myself against the wind in several spots. My hands were freezing until below Skeleton Point. Took 54 mins from TH to SP.
29 more minutes to the Tipoff, where I took a twenty minute break and shed some layers.
35 more minutes to the bridge.
Met Kristi on Boat Beach, and after her dad and brother-in-law went to hike the River Loop, we went up to Phantom to hang out and drink lemonade. It was nice at the bottom, but not as sunny or warm as we had been hoping.
After about an hour and a half of visiting, Kristi walked me back to the trail split/info board area and we said goodbye. I stopped at Boat Beach for another look and ran into Rangers Della and Jerome and chatted with them briefly.
The trip up was much slower ... I lacked the motivation that got me to the bottom so quickly, and was just out of gas. It didn't help that I was at my company's Christmas party until almost midnight the night before.
By the time I reached Skeleton Point for a break, it was getting cold and windy again and I had to layer up.
Reached Cedar Ridge a little after sunset and put on more layers and my headlamp ... didn't turn it on until around Windy Ridge. Hiked about the last mile by headlamp - my first night-hike in the Canyon ...
All in all, a fantastic day! Pretty sore today. :D
