Had another fun outing in the Superstitions yesterday. I wanted to check out the condition of the Hieroglyphic Trail as some friends have been interested in making the hike and wanted me to guide them. The only problem I can foresee would be the areas of loose rocks along the trail and the potential for someone to slip and twist something. So a little slower pace would be the solution.

The Balancing Rock still sits high up on the Eastern slope of the canyon and has survived another banner Monsoon, high wind and Haboob season. After hiking up close to the rock a couple of years ago, I observed that the base material of the rock appears somewhat fragile, so it's good to see that it's still in place.

There's water in the pools, but not flowing so the water's quite brackish and contains orange peels and other carelessly disposed refuse. The Petroglyph's seem to have a few more current markings but are still a fascination that I wish I could interpret.

There was a slow but steady stream of visitors to the area making photo shots hard to not include people in them, but if you wait long enough, they leave.

On my return trip, I deviated and followed closer to the dry boulder strewn wash where I encountered another series of Rock Drawings. These aren't as extensive as the ones in the canyon above but don't include any recent defacing. They're higher up on the face of the rocks, but also exposed to more sun which has made them more difficult to find.

Once again, I came upon healthy growths of Catsclaw while bushwhacking but the trail itself is as I had expected it to be. Lots of people are beginning to come out now that the weather's changing, but that's the nature of the beast, I guess :D

No water was flowing from the spring area.

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.
