It's getting easier to find the Cave Trail "trailhead" on Fremont Saddle. We just went northeast from Peralta Trail, went around some boulders, followed one of many paths until they dwindled in numbers, then turned right (southeast) and finally followed one, very obvious trail.
Cave trail is much more interesting than Peralta & more challenging in some sections. The views are excellent for many Superstition landmarks, especially to the east and northeast. Overcast skies and on/off drizzle played a bit of havoc with the photos.
We paid homage to the Cairn Factory (or is it ..... where old, worn out cairns go for rehab and rebuild?). If we all keep adding cairns, HAZ will be in the book of "Guinness World Records" for the most cairns in a tiny location.
We saw some rock climbers practicing their sport, as there are alot of practice walls in the area.
We passed a large group of hikers on the upper portion of the trail, and then later watched them from below, as they attempted to determine the best way to get down the "non-water" water slide portion of the trail. They each had their own techniques in getting down those double-bus length boulders.
It was fortunate the rain had stopped by then, making all boulders nice and grippy again.
This was a nice finish to a great day in the Superstitions. |
