| no partners | | I wanted to get to a ruin site along the Agua Fria River at the bottom of Lousy Canyon. The map indicated roads leaving north from Black Canyon City headed that way, but I was not surprised to see approaches on both the east and west sides of the river bed sign posted as private and no trespassing. So I parked on the edge of town and started up the rocky river bed.
The river was slow walking (and increasingly wetter) and I strayed to the east side road (Tara Springs Rd.) a couple times. When I ran across a threatening sign I'd retreat back to the river. A couple miles up, past the last of the occupied residences, I took the road full time. It's rough in places but there was evidence that ATVs and horses had been there recently.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the ruin. I wandered through the sticky bushes for quite a while...always one or two pottery sherds visible but seldom more. Now that I take a closer look at my path and the satellite picture I think I missed it by a 100 yards (sheesh!) - I may have to return. |
