Once we were parked we made our way up the dirt road and across the mesa. My initial plan was to shimmy down the mesa somewhere towards the river. This was not a good idea. We ended up spending about two miles traveling through very soft soil. We ended up finding a pretty easy way down the side of the mesa all the way until we ended up looking at a 15 foot cliff on one side and a wall of bamboo on the other. Once we navigated correctly we actually found a trail. We will call it the "Trail of Many Thorns". With the trail we were able to quickly make it down to the Agua Fria. We were so happy for the trail we didn't notice all the down hill we would now need to come back up. About a half mile from the river we can across some fencing that was easily passed through. Since this is where the cow business started we can imagine it was to keep them in. We walked some, boulder hoped some and made it to a point that looked like it would require swimming. Back to the truck it is then. The walk back was much easier since we found the trail but it is still a good deal of elevation. If you come out this way make sure you bring your GPS, long pants and good path finding ability. |
