I drove up to Black Canyon City with two possible hikes in mind. When I got out into the wind I decided to take the "low road" and head up the Agua Fria to the ruin I couldn't find last weekend.

I did a better job navigating the river, road, and "keep out" signs and fought the head wind up to the Lousy Canyon-Agua Fria intersection. I thought there were ruins on both the south and north sides of Lousy Creek but after fighting my way to the southside shelf it was clear there was nothing there (a couple sherds) and the ruin could be seen on the other side.

This particular ruin is unique in the Perry Mesa area in that it's at river level (rather than mesa level). That, and the fact it's not very accessible had me hoping it might be particularly interesting. Unfortunately it was pretty standard: collapsed walls, pottery sherds, a little obsidian. The unusual aspects are that it's overgrown with saguaros and built on a slope...I think the shelf on the other side would have been nicer though harder to get to water.
