| no partners | | Being able to overnight at a motel in Boulevard gave me enough free time Sunday morning to re-drive the Sunrise Highway (S1) in daylight, since the event I was to attend wasn't until 230. Lots of time to not be rushed. I also had a chance to check out Cibbets Flat campground in the same general area, as I was determined to get at least one night of camping in on this trip! I liked what I saw there and even though it was full of campers, I figured they would pretty much be cleared out by Sunday evening. I also liked the fact that it was inexpensive ($14/night) versus $20/night up at Laguna Mountain and the $30/night fee at the state parks at Palomar and Cuyamaca. Plus, since it is Forest Service, I was able to do the half price thing with my senior pass. After checking out the campground I drove the Sunrise Highway in the reverse direction of the day before heading up through Laguna and over to Cuyamaca. This is a nice road with excellent scenery. The short side trip to Kwaaymii Point afforded some terrific views down into Cottonwood Canyon and the desert some 4000 feet below. From the picnic area at Mt. Laguna you could see down the Potrero Canyon all the way to Vallecito Park along road S2, where I have camped before. |
