It branches off from the Crest Trail and heads to a spot with some fine views. In fact, if you get a little off the trail along the way, you will be treated to even more nice panoramas. Short and sweet! This area is in about the middle of the 40 mile long range that trends north-south. There have been a number of large fires in recent years that impacted mostly the eastern facing areas. One, the Trigo Fire in 2008 burned up to the ridgeline here and damaged some electronic gear and campgrounds. Another one that year raged down lower toward Tajique and took out over 50 buildings. This is the range that is well known for its stand of big tooth maples down at Fourth of July Canyon, that I have enjoyed visiting in the fall many times. |
