The day started at 0630, meeting Larry Morgan the curator at Paton's house in Patagonia. We had planned to bird Lake Patagonia and the surrounding area, but he asked if I would like to see the Huachuca Canyon, Miller Canyon and Ash Canyon bird spots - of course I said YES!
It was interesting getting access to Fort Huachuca as a civilian, but they let us through! This is rumored as an epic bird spot - unfortunately the day seemed quiet. Perhaps it was the barometric pressure change from the incoming low pressure system? and departing back door cold front that brought the high winds.
Our second stop was Beatty's guest ranch in Miller canyon - we were lucky to see the Mexican Spotted Owl and the elusive Blue Throat and Magnificent Hummingbird.
Our third stop was to Ash Canyon and Mary Jo's feeding station - for some Scott's Orioles.
On the way home from Patagonia, I stopped in Sonoita for a local bottle of wine and I was blessed with an incredible sunset on Highway 82 North of Sonoita.
Good day all! |
