From there we drove to Oversite Canyon to find the beginning of the trail. No one was in the mood to hike and Wendy's dog was sore from the hike the day before so we just decided to take a short walk instead of a full hike. We drove until there was a spot that looked a bit rough for the Outbacks. Then we walked to the Wilderness sign.
Next we headed to Sunnyside to check out the ghost town. There were still a few buildings standing. One of which was more modern.. The original site was started in the mid 1880s according to my web search. It was founded by a religious guy called Samuel Donnelly, who died in 1901. Around 1903 nearly everyone had left. Later in 1912, Sunnyside became a ranching community and even had a post office which ran until 1934.
Thanks, Wendy, for a great weekend! |
