| no partners | | Arrived Friday evening to find surprisingly few campers along FR144 and FR149. I parked at a really nice spot to stay the night along 149. I originally planned to bike into the Calloway Trail down 142B, but forgot to switch out my clip in pedals the night before and they just weren't going to work with hiking shoes. So I hit up the point again for a good short trip. No campers along 142E at all, but there were 6 assorted vehicles at the trailhead. There were quite a few people at the bottom of the trail trying to scramble across the first creek crossing using a couple of skinny trees tied together. I just plowed through the creek and told them that this was the deepest crossing for maybe 2 miles if you hike upstream. Most all of the obvious campsites were taken and plenty of people were hking downstream from the Maxwell and Tramway. I was approaching my favorite spot about halfway between the Point and Maxwell when I realized that my spot was taken too. Turns out they were actually all packed up and leaving. I moved right in and started fishing. I didn't last long with the fly rod this day, it was way too windy. I caught a few brown trout on a floating minnow crankbait and one was perfectly sized for my pack skillet. There are deep pools all up and down this section of WCC. This is an amesome campsite and there is a cache in a green ammo can here. I borrowed something and left something too. I hope someone gets it before the lime shrivels up.
I'll be back when the winds let up. |
