Had to drive through a nasty cloud of fog that dropped my speed to 10MPH for a couple of miles. It was 52 degrees inside the cloud, 81 on the other side of it. Rolled in on 144 past the usually occupied easy to access spots and all were empty. This is where I spotted a black panther on my last trip in June. Right by the side of the road with blinking green lights. Turned right on 149, then right on 142. Rolled all the way down to the end of 142E (car accessible all the way). My usual spot was taken so I set up about a 1/2 mile shy of the parking area. Then several others rolled in on both sides of me. Wow, it's looking kind of crowded? Made the decent on Saturday morning in the usual 30 minutes. Met Cale who had nice brown and rainbow trout in his cooler. Waded and hiked upstream (deepest crossings are within the first quarter mile) after that it's ankle deep all the way to the Maxwell. About half way there on the right, an elevated campsite, my favorite,, was taken... Chose a different spot I have always wanted to try that is by a great fishing hole. (Note: don't camp right in front of a great fishing hole unless you want to see lots of people right before dark and first thing in the morning). And swimmers all afternoon. Still enjoyed fishing, catching some more crawdads for supper, and a night in the hammock with no rain. Oh yeah, dude, who swam across the creek Sunday morning to retrieve your favorite lure... Burrrrrrr! |
