Arrived at Mining Camp TH and started hiking in the dark at 5:15am. As soon as I got close to the mountain, I could hear the sound of water falling. As I approached the bowl, sounds of running water surrounded me. The entire mountain is saturated with water and it is seeping from every corner.
I lost count of the streams, trickles, waterfalls, etc. They were everywhere, even well beyond the big falls in the bowl. At the base of the bowl there is a rock jam with bushy clumps of grasses growing on top. As evidenced by the now horizontal grasses, the water coming through the draw clearly breached this 3 foot pile of rock. I can only imagine what this would have looked like, or even better, what the big falls would have looked like when this flood was ripping through the slick rock.
Stopped at the lookout not far above the bowl and enjoyed the spectacular 3D surround sound of water falling all around me. Took a few pics with my cell phone along the way, which I will post. |
