I have been wanting to re-visit Cedar Basin since our last time there in April of 2012 and we haven't been on that side of the Superstitions in a while so it was on. The weather was fantastic, high clouds with mild temps. I knew there would be water flowing down Cedar Basin Canyon however I wasn't expecting the flow we encountered which made the trekking a little slow. Some areas where the canyon narrowed had 2-3 feet of water which forced us out into the dense and throned brush Once in the basin we did a little exploring and then found a nice spot for lunch. Miller Spring is right in the flow of the water so it was hard to tell if it was flowing or if the water was just from the last rain. On our decent down to Tortilla Creek instead of taking the pack trail like we did the last time we crossed over to the ridge line to the left and took it down. It got a little steep as we got closer to the creek but we were able to find game trails that made for safe travel. Once in Tortilla Creek we boulder hopped back to Hoolie Bacon and then back to the trail head. Great hike |
