The hike down the road was good as we looked for ruins and routes up Tortilla Mountain and down to Tortilla Creek. Soon we made our way up the JF trail to the intersection with Hoolie Bacon. The first thing we noticed on the HB trail were some bear foot prints. Denny took a few photos and we continued on. Soon after the sun was out it began to warm up for some nice hiking weather. The HB trail is overgrown a little in spots but fairly easy to follow if you pay attention. We stopped off at Horse Camp spring were Denny found a set of antlers and had to try them on. We continued on and a short time later kicked up two whitetail bucks. A few miles farther we spotted two whitetail does. The trail was getting old so some we opted to explore. We spotted a boulder in the open and I wanted to check it out. Denny thought I was crazy but decided to go along. Strangely enough there was an old mining camp under the boulder. At this point we stopped for lunch and looped back to the Jeep to get out about an hour before dark. Thanks for the hike Denny. |
