| no partners | | Went to look around the Horseshoe Reservoir area....I had pre-marked a few cultural sites that might be interesting. Visited two pretty substantial ruins...the one near the starting point had some petroglyphs. We approached the second one by bushwacking up the mesa and I was impressed by the large amount of pottery strewn down the hillside.
We walked to the end of the mesa to see some more petroglyphs: a little bit underwhelming with a fair amount of vandalism.
We did a half-circle up the hill and back down to the car but didn't find anything else of much interest though pottery pieces are pretty common.
I got the impression that this area has been trampled a lot through the years (mainly by hunters) and is less pristine than I like, though the farther we got from the road the nicer it got.
No pictures (almost)! I left my memory card at home in the computer. I did coax one picture out of my "emergency" pay as you go cell phone. I checked one of Aladdinsane's Horseshoe triplogs and found that he did photograph the mesa end glyphs we saw.(http://hikearizona.com/photoset=25358, pics 12 and later) |
