| no partners | | The steep hills have been beating me up the last couple weeks so I thought I'd go for a more relaxing petroglyph hunt. I've been to this area a couple times before without much success but by the process of elimination I thought my chances were good today.
It worked out great! It's low basalt covered hills and flat desert and I had continuous "good fishing" for 4 hours as I walked a loop. I was pretty much just lucky that a few of my random decisions of "left or right?" were on the money. I'm pretty sure I covered much of the same ground that Aladdinsane did for one of his posted photologs.
I found petroglyphs clustered in several major concentrations but with the odd glyph in between. The artists seemed to prefer high points but there were plenty down low on smaller rocks. It was also clear that some were much older than others. I only saw a few pieces of pottery and no ruins: they apparently lived on the next hill over, but liked to put their decorations elsewhere. In a few places open spaces had been cleared and I noticed a couple man made rock alignments at the bottom of a hill, probably for agriculture / water diversion.
I was shocked to find I'd taken 316 pictures! |
