| no partners | | | Our hikers wanted to find the 'Paint Mine' and also, do a review of the 1st Water to Canyon Lake crossover we plan to do later this month. We began at the Canyon Lake Marina parking area and hiked up the Boulder Canyon Trail #103. We took a few pictures of the great vistas of the lake as we hiked to the LaBarge Creek, then began a search for the 'Paint Mine'. Kay, had been there some time ago and wasn't certain of it location to the trail. We searched the red cliffs for a time, before giving up and deciding to walk on to the Second Water trail marker. Then, we happened on the mine which was right on the trail between LaBarge creek and Boulder Creek. From the Second Water Trail Marker, we decided to take a short cut and hike the LaBarge Creek back to the Canyon Lake Marina. Luckily, the water was not too high to get through and we were able to negotiate the more difficult areas without getting wet. It's a truly beautiful hike down the creek, but does have some obstacles. When we reached the smooth rock play area, we found cairns leading out of the creek bed. Before we reached that point, it was a bushwhack down the creek. |
