| no partners | | Did my monthly summit trip the hard way, steep-trailing it up from the south after parking at 7th Ave. Surprised to see only a smattering of wildflowers. A few scorpion weed and fiddleneck, this in an area where last year they sprouted everywhere. Down low by the SW dam a few buckhorns bloomed yellow. Not much color in this park unless you do the N dam. Took the unnamed connector trail from the NE corner of the #60 to the National Tr, and then struggled up to the summit where I stopped for a long time. Ate lunch and waited with a couple of others for what I thought would be an outstanding sunset but wasn't. Just the usual beautiful. The cleanest air-day I've seen for a while. Started down on the pavement and counted a meager number coming up. Only 34, about half what I normally see. Traveled back via the inner basin on the 100, all in darkness with a flashlight and only an owl's hooting in the west park to keep me company. |
