What a zoo at the park! VC crammed with cars. Must've been a special event because it wasn't reflected in the number walking the inner basin. The paved road to the summit was crammed with hikers doing the short route from the ramadas. Counted 94 coming down as I went up about 6:30 pm, and 45 on their way up in darkness as I came down about 8. Never saw it so busy. And on a Wednesday too. Very quiet in the basin. Only a peep or two from quail. After leaving the pavement on the return to the VC saw or heard no one, my little headlamp's beam the only sign of life in the eastern part of the park. Wonderful night with a waxing, gibbous moon and bright Venus glowing but offering little light on the path. Gnats and a persistent buzzer, maybe a mosquito, loved my lamp and were the only downers. The masses at the VC had trundled off and my car was the only one left in the parking lot at 8:45.
