Hoped to see snow on distant peaks from the summit. But the day was mostly overcast with lots of shadows so the seeing didn't go that well. Four Peaks was smothered in clouds but a breakthrough in sunlight showed the north side of the Superstitions with what looked like a good covering of snow. Chilly day, 45 when I left the car at the VC parking lot about 1545 and and 41 on return two hours later. Saw two guys coming down with a large and colorful New Year's decoration. It was on rollers, and one guy was in front of it, walking backward and guiding it down. The second guy was shooting a video of it all. Lots of hikers but few serious ones by the looks of their footwear. Stayed on summit about 30 minutes with a dozen or so others. On the way down on the pavement I came across only 21 coming up as sunset loomed, about half the average number I usually run into.
