this combo has been on my list for a few months
john and i both had the day free and he agreed to do it with me
went up the summit trail first, early enough that we ascended in shade
this hike has all the elements i find fun and challenging: good elevation gain, some scrambling and route-finding, cool terrain and great views
spent a few minutes on top checking out the scenery, the bench, the benchmark, the mailbox and summit register
back down, took a short break at my truck, then set out clockwise on the circumference trail
arnett creek was the highlight of this loop
our timing was good one week after a decent amount of rain
lots of flowing water in the creek and the surrounding vegetation was a nice shade of green
saw what looked like an interesting saddle and bushwhacked up to where the jeep road comes down into telegraph canyon, then walked up to the sign and the cattle guard
we both found several apache tears along this road
followed arnett creek to a wash, which eventually led to a road south and a trail west
chose to stay in a wash and horse trail rather than follow the arizona trail
made a visit to a couple of mines
the times and distances are estimates based on previously posted routes
unfortunately, i lost my gps somewhere in arnett creek
didn't discover this until about halfway through the hike, and although john offered to retrace our steps to find it, i thought the odds would be low and wanted to complete the loop
might be interested in coming back out to look for it (kingsnake, i'm talking to you ;) )
nice weather today
always enjoy flowing water through the desert
good to get out with john again :)
