| no partners | | I had not hiked Ortega in over a month, though I have done parts of the A Trail many times, and with today's weather I had to get out and do it. Plus, I wanted to be over 50,000' for the first 1/4 of the year and 12,000' for March. Today was mild, but very windy. The dust on White Sands picked up and obscured Sierra Blanca by the time I made the summit. The wind fell off a bit and the dust settled as I came down, so I could see more, but it was too late for my summit. If one thing struck me about today, it was how out of shape I have become over the last month of lax hiking. I have to start hiking again.
I love looking at the rugged SE slopes of Salinas Peak while on Ortega, on a clear day. This is a link to an image taken on Salinas in 2000, looking towards Whitesands. I wish it was open to the public. http://www.panoramio.com/photo/10297045 |
