| no partners | | Cicadas! That is how I would describe today. Lots of cicadas for the entire hike. It was really nice. It also looked a little like monsoon season, with some showers or virga over the higher terrain to the east. Still lots of birds out, including the swifts buzzing me on the summit, but the insects are taking over for summer. It was hot out, but it's about time to get use to that. On top, I signed the summit log that this was my 54th time up on Ortega, but it was actually my 55th. Not bad, and while in Alamogordo, this was my Mount Elden. It was my first hike I did here, but I don't know if it will be my last. I would like to do a light hike tomorrow, if I can. If not, it seems appropriate that this should be my last hike in Alamogordo. I went a little further up the A, for, "olde thyme's sake". |
