| partners | | Great day on the mountain. We had light flurries off and on, but somehow managed to avoid the squalls which surrounded the area all day. Still can't figure out how that happened.
We made great time, partly because it was really cold when you stopped moving for more than a minute or two. Plenty of water along the way up the west trail. Several drainages are still flowing with snowmelt. Not much snow left from winter on the west, but the top and the upper half of the east trail had large, deep drifts in the woods, but the trail itself was clear.
The sections of deadfall on both east and west were tiring. Lots of climbing up and over or crawling down and under to get around. The plane wreckage was a nice find. Stuff like this is way cooler than piles of rocks (in my opinion ). The lower portion of the east trail goes through a very scenic area of cliffs and rock formations. This would be a worth destination on its own!
The peak itself was chilly, and the snow squalls surrounding us made our visit very brief. By the time we got back to the car, I was exhausted. Great hike though. Fun to hike with Kathy, Karl, and 9L. |
