| no partners | | I got into Flagstaff around 12am Wednesday night and proceeded to poke around Freidlein Prairie's dispersed sites (and some more of FR522) only to find all of the sites occupied. I headed back onto 89 and looked for something closer to the objective: Kendrick. I found a nice spot just a stone's throw from the trailhead and got ready for the night. Lights out at 3am, a new personal record for this kind of thing.
I woke up to and turned off all three of my alarms and slept in until 11am. I packed up, had a quick breakfast, and was on the trail at noon. I passed one person in the parking lot and had the trail to myself after that. I made what felt like good time on the way up, stopping every now and again to catch my breath. Upon reaching the saddle, I noticed the whopping view of the San Francisco Peaks for the first time, again - I don't know how I could forget about such a thing, but I did. At the top, I had a quick conversation with the dude in the tower before fleeing from the hoards of gnats that were up there. Saw a fat horned lizard and a deer on the way down... That about covers it. |
