got an earlier start today after a big girl breakfast
note to self: don't eat quite so much next time
set out around 9:00 on a bluebird day in the high country
steady climb through forest with an occasional clearing or open drainage
the switchbacks offer changing views with an occasional glimpse of the firetower
went right to the base of the tower and the helicopter pad, which i shared with a 10 year old boy and his father
no one in the tower, in fact i passed the ranger going down early on
spent about 20 minutes at the summit, then went down to check out the cabin
another nice cruise down from there, especially the lower two or three miles
quite a few people out, between 30 and 40, which you might expect on labor day
an arizona classic and a peak - nice morning
p.s. forest road 193 is slightly better than 245, rockier but fewer ruts |
