Kendrick has been on my to-do list for awhile and I am glad to have enjoyed the trail. I wasn't overly awed by the lower/beginning portion of the hike, but once you gain some elevation, the views open up and remind you why the Flag area is so special. In particular, I enjoyed the views of the peaks with Humphreys prominently on display. The most common views of the peaks seem to feature Agassiz and Fremont, with Humphreys hiding in the background, if in view at all.
While we were far from "alone" on the trail, there was still much solitude to be had, and we did actually have the summit to ourselves when we arrived around 1 pm or so. The kids had fun exploring around the cabin, and I made a mental note of the nice, grassy camping area behind the cabin for a potential future backpacking trip.
We made our way back to the car by mid-late afternoon, and capped the day off with a quick tour of the Lava River Cave, which is practically right next door.
Good times had by all. |
