| no partners | | I'd been meaning to hike this thing all summer. Finally got around to it. Nice day, although windy. Had a nice chat with the fire lookout, a young guy, his first season. There were a couple of buttes over at Grand Canyon we could see: Siegfried Pyre and Butchart Butte (named for Harvey). He hadn't known their names since they're not in his area. I also pointed out the Hualapais and the Wabayumas--very faint in the distance. He was able to determine via his computer and his fire finder that they are 120 miles away in a straight line.
Otherwise, the aspens are coming along, bright yellow. The summer is fading fast. I am still trying to get back to my former hiking self. Still hiking in the Altras shoes. |

Autumn Foliage Observation Moderate Aspen and bracken fern were showing fall colors. |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated Summer flowers: a few penstemons and asters are hanging on. Mullein has gone to seed, along with just about everything else. |
