| partners | | This is just a fun place to ride bikes. This was my second time on this route, but my friend and I went further west than I had last time, and found that the railroad grade ends rather abruptly at a sheer drop-off where there used to be a bridge. On what remains of the bridge it says "1951." (See photos.) A very rough ATV track bypasses this. According to the CalTopo map and the satellite, you could pick up the abandoned RR grade again and go to Johnson Canyon Railway Tunnel.
Next time I think I'll approach it from the west and go past the tunnel and on up to where I left off near McLellan Reservoir. I'll have to start very early in the morning because it is very hot down in the Johnson Canyon area right now--much lower elevation.
Very fun day with my old pal. |
