| no partners | | I got up and put my bike on the car and rigged my kayak and put it down on the launch ramp. I put on my bike shorts and bike shoes and bike gloves and grabbed my helmet and drove the car with bike on it to Jack Smith Park. I parked the car, got my bike down from the rack and rode it back to the launch ramp, getting a flat on the way, so that I had to walk the last half mile pushing my bike, wearing my bike shoes.
I put the bike away, took off my helmet and bike gloves, changed into quick-dry shorts and sandals, and a big hat and paddling gloves. Walked down to the launch ramp, launched the kayak. First I had myself a bit of a workout by paddling upstream. When I got tired of that I turned the boat around and coasted it down the swift current. That part was fun! Not much paddling necessary in this area, the current is so strong.
Of course, when I got to the launch ramp I had to walk up to the car to get my two-wheeled kayak cart, and pull the boat up the launch ramp and put it on the car and tie it down.
Was it worth all the trouble? Hmmm, sort of. I need to do a longer loop, I think, in order to be more cost effective for the setting-up and taking down and changing clothes, shoes, gloves and headgear! I need to have better inner tubes on the bike. I get flats all the time out here. |
