Thursday morning it was breezy, overcast and cool, so I opted to hang out in my motel room. I grew tired of this confinement and headed out in early afternoon. Before leaving town, I headed down to the Blue Corn Brewery on Cerrillos for lunch. Tried their green chile cheeseburger, that was excellent and made up for the lame one at Mine Shaft the day before. Originally, I thought I would hike up to Deception Peak from the Santa Fe Ski Area, based on the recently posted hike description by slegal, but thunderstorms made it clear there wouldn't be any hiking (not to mention the unfavorable morning conditions).
So, it was a little road trip instead, as the weather got heavier. I always have liked the drive up the High Road to Taos, so figured that would work. Went to Chimayo first, then as a big storm was approaching from the west, I headed for Truchas. It hit about the time I got to Truchas, so I snapped a few pictures and decided I better head back to Santa Fe. It got very interesting as I made my way back down NM 503!
On my way back to Pojoaque in the pouring rain, I found myself driving through some areas of serious flash flooding. Had to stop a few times for some photos, even with the lightning blasting away! Suddenly I came over a hill and there was a strong flow of water in an arroyo crossing the road. Decided to wait for it to subside, which it eventually did, so I could cross safely. That was .
Back at the motel, I dried off a bit and decided to head down to the Railyard District and stop for more food/beer at the Second Street Brewery there. The storms were still roaming the area, so it was raining lightly as I found a place to park. Got a short video clip of the Rail Runner arriving at the train station, then decided I would move the car to a place closer to the brewery. Well, wouldn't you know it, it started raining heavier and there was construction, so I had to walk further than expected. I got totally soaked and decided to just head back to the motel instead. Drove to another place for dinner later. It was at this point that I decided to leave Santa Fe a day early and head home.
Still had a good time and look forward to a return visit in the near future with fair weather conditions, so I can play tourist and stroll around this great place. Just love Santa Fe!
