| no partners | | Left Santa Fe Saturday morning on my way to Las Vegas, New Mexico. Drove the scenic road from Pojoaque up through Truchas and Las Trampas, before reaching NM 518 near Penasco. (This was through an area that I had intended to visit on my trip to Santa Fe in late July, that I had to cut short due to heavy monsoon action.) Next it was across the Sangre de Cristos along the Rio Pueblo, before reaching a scenic overlook of the Mora Valley. Love this drive and have done it many times.
A must stop this trip was the Cleveland Roller Mill Museum. It is one of the grist mills that were located in this valley along the Mora River. A remnant of another time, most built in the late 1800's to process wheat and corn. A festival is held there during Labor Day weekend and it is the only time that the ancient machinery in the mill is operated (display purposes only). I stopped here with my Mom in the early 1990's, but didn't actually go to the festival until 2006 and 2007. Thought it was time for another visit. 
Following the stop at the mill, checked out some roads south of Mora that I had been curious about. After a brief look around, I decided it was worth backtracking from Las Vegas the next day to explore further. Finished the day by checking into the Super 8, then heading downtown for beer and pizza.
