The exit was still available, just something to be aware of if you head here soon.
Initial part of hike was easy going. The recent heavy rains seemed to have enlarged the (now dry) washes that appear to coincide with the trail quite a bit in the early going. We spent the first couple of miles hopping back and forth across the creek and spotted quite a few other hikers and four or five camp sites who were just getting up for the day.
The creek was cool and clear. Did not see much in the way of wildlife but several varieties of wildflowers which became more prominent (and larger) as we approached the spring. Walter enjoyed splashing in the water all along the way but started to get a little winded on the final climb up to the spring. Climb was gentle and not overly hot in the mind morning sun through the old growth.
The trip back was mostly downhill and-- as we followed the main trail without the added creek hopping-- quite a bit quicker. Overall a very enjoyable hike through a variety of landscapes and plant life. |
