Hallelujah, Yippy, Hooray, Picacho is open for the Season! My first trip up today was on the Sunset Vista Trail.

Picacho took a pretty good beating from last weeks rain storm. The Ranger (who has worked the park for over 10 years) said it is by far the most damage and erosion she has seen since being employed there.

As I was making my way across the desert floor the trail near the washes seemed to have the most damage. Then as I was making my way up towards the first set of cables it was really washed out in spots. Basically large sections of rock came down in landslides taking the trail with it. If you haven't done this trail before it may be a tad difficult to follow. If you have then you will know where to look for the continuation of trail where it is missing.

A new sign has been installed at the summit with the elevation and coordinates.

After my hike up it was straight to DQ for a Cherry Dipped Cone. Delish!
