Got this crazy whim yesterday to go back to Mount Ajo. I hit up LP to see if he was interested. He needed to think it over. 30 minutes later he sent a text asking if 6am was a good time to depart? :y:

So I picked him up and we were off. 2 hours and 45 minutes later we were hiking up the Bull Basin Trail. Destination Mount Ajo. Along the way we saw a couple National Park Service guys in the Bull Basin area. Beyond that we had the park to ourselves all day.

As you head up there is one section that gets a little steep for about a quarter mile or so. After that it levels out a bit. Once up top we spent a few minutes getting the fox tail out of our socks and then back down we went.

For the return we decided to loop back on the Estes Canyon Trail. This section is very scenic with several types of cactus.

We finished up around 12:30 and hit the road. Neither of us had ever traveled Highway 86 between Why and Tucson so we decided to take the scenic route home. Kitt Peak looks like it needs to be added to my "to do" list.

We indulged on some Tacos at BK's in South Tucson and called it a day!

Great Hike and Good Times with JohnLP! Thanks for going John and thanks for the tacos.
